More & Company began with a simple wish: bring interesting, useful and beautiful things together in one space in Portland, Maine. We opened the doors of our High Street shop in May of 2013. It was a modest little space housing our studio tucked away in the back behind a perfectly placed sliding door. We designed and made art and objects, we found and brought together wares from all over the world, we gathered the community for wine and ice cream, we relished the hard work and the process as a part of our familial and artistic experiences. We moved to Yarmouth and added a small café in late 2018. Our love of coffee and pastry drove this new chapter and we tucked our shop goods onto two huge wooden shelves in the new space. We added wine and beer to our menu, started making our own cakes and scones, served the best coffee in town and listened loudly to records. It was a short but gorgeous chapter. We loved it. The 2020 pandemic, along with a necessity to simplify, pushed us to close our doors for good on December 20, 2020.
Some of the More & Co. family came back together in the winter/spring of 2021 to pull together this special commemorative book for you. We are so pleased to give you something to remember us by! The More & Co. book houses years of our design, photography, graphics, products, drawings as well as our favorite 36 recipes (with photographs) from the years in Yarmouth. The book will also include some never-seen-before work from over the years as well as from this last chapter of early 2021.
The More & Co. book team includes Christopher David Ryan, Maria Alexandra Vettese, Ryan Thomas Shimala, Chloe Brown, Charles Yesenczki, David Iovino, Evan Twachtman, Emily O’Neil, Caroline Summa, Luna Rose Ryan with writing/design collaboration by Stephanie Congdon Barnes and Ann Finkel. The book highlights work by these fine folks, as well as More & Co. collaborative projects from various other artists. Recipes include many favorites such as the Chocolate Olive Oil and Almond Cakes, as well as the Almond Chocolate Chip Cookie and Vanilla Sugar Scone. (There are also many savory recipes!) The book will be a treat for your eyes, minds and appetites.
